STOP PRESS - 17 Feb '10
Whilst the economic outlook remains patchy and uncertain we have experienced a substantial increase in activity in business angel funding over the last 3 months with levels of funding returning to those of early 2008 and confidence returning to companies seeking funding to expand or develop their businesses.
Our new series of Beer Investment Evenings hosted by St. James’s Place Wealth Management are proving popular for investors, building on our strap line “face to face finance” recognising that the best investments are made in people - the management team that are critical to any successful venture and the investors who bring so much more to the table than just funding. For the February event (25th February in London) St. James’s Place have arranged for Gavyn Davies OBE, to present an overview of hedge funds in the current climate. Gavyn is the former chairman of the BBC and the current Chairman of Fulcrum Asset Management. We will be presenting three engaging and well prepared clients with differing deal structures and investment opportunities.
With signs that this will continue to build during 2010 we have made some recent additions to our team of associates across the country and welcome Robert Heed (Midlands), Frank McIllwee (South East), Dave Flockhart and James Coleman (London) and Doug Garforth (London and East Anglia) who all bring additional skills as well as building our presence across the country.
On the Property Finance side of our business, Martin Atkinson has decided that he wished to scale back his activities and retired from the board in January after serving since 2004. Martin’s support and guidance to the Company and to me personally has been invaluable as is his knowledge of funding structures for the property market and knowledge and experience of investors garnered since he originally joined the company in 1997. Martin will remain active as an associate albeit on a scaled back basis. It is reassuring that Martin will still be in the background to provide advice.
He is succeeded as Managing Associate of the Property Division by Kim Ort who is joined by Martin Gaskell and Steve Cazot based in the South East as Property associates.
We continue to recruit and are seeking associates in Birmingham, Reading, Coventry & Warwickshire, Manchester, Leeds, Sheffield, Kent and Scotland. Should you know of anyone who you believe would fulfil this profile and be interested we would appreciate your referral.
